Meet Ben
Founder, Cornerstone Safety Training
I’ve spent over 15 years working in high‑risk environments within corrections, including specialist roles in security operations. Much of that work involved managing difficult interactions where pressure was high, information was limited, and decisions needed to be made quickly — always within policy and organisational expectations.
Over time, I saw consistent patterns in how incidents developed. Situations rarely escalated suddenly or without warning. More often, risk increased through subtle behavioural changes, missed moments, and decisions made under pressure — not through obvious aggression alone.
I also saw how easy it was for people to stay engaged too long, focus on managing behaviour, or rely on ideal responses that didn’t always hold up in real conditions.
Alongside my operational roles, I’ve spent more than a decade delivering training -- working directly with staff to build practical capability rather than theoretical knowledge. That experience reinforced a clear gap between what people are often taught and what actually helps when situations begin to shift.
Cornerstone Safety Training was developed to bridge that gap — focusing on early recognition, decision‑making under pressure, and realistic strategies that support safer outcomes for staff and organisations. The approach is grounded in frontline reality, not idealised scenarios.

My Approach
This training is built on observing how aggressive incidents actually unfold — including what works, what doesn’t, and what often gets missed under pressure.
The focus is on early recognition, practical decision‑making, and simple strategies staff can rely on as situations begin to shift. Rather than aiming for perfect responses, the goal is to help people recognise risk sooner, create safer options, and disengage earlier when needed.
Everything is practical, grounded in real workplaces, and designed to hold up under stress — not just in theory.
